Eastern Senior High School was one of the first public high schools in Washington, DC to use The Hochman Method. After a pilot period in 2013-2014, the school participated in a High Impact Partnership in the 2014-2015 and 2015-2016 school years. Students’ sentence construction grew significantly more complex. Their writing was more organized and cohesive.

From 2015 to 2016, the percentage of students who met or exceeded grade level expectations on the PARCC exam increased by 64%, and on International Baccalaureate exams, which require lengthy written answers, an impressive 42% of students received passing scores in 2016.

"When I first heard about the Hochman Method, I was skeptical. But in the 8 years I’ve taught writing to high school students, I’ve never seen a program work as well as this one."
