As of 2019, The Writing Revolution has trained more than 5,000 educators through courses and partnerships and has reached more than 150,000 students. The Writing Revolution: A Guide to Advancing Thinking Through Writing in All Subjects and Grades (2017) has sold thousands of copies nationally and internationally.
Each year, TWR administers a writing assessment to students in partner schools at the beginning, middle, and end of the school year.
TWR’s goal was for 75% of all students to be proficient according to the TWR Single-Paragraph Rubric at the end of three years of instruction.
This goal was met and exceeded after only two years.
Students at TWR partner schools in the 3rd grade outperformed the growth made by students on average in New York City and New York State. One TWR partner elementary school grew by 13% from 2018 to 2019, compared to 1% growth in NYS and 2% growth in NYC.
From 2018 to 2019, the average growth of students’ proficiency in TWR partner high schools on the NY State ELA and Living Environment Regents Exams was higher than the average growth for students in New York City and New York State.
From 2018 to 2019, the average growth of proficiency on the NY State U.S. History Regents Exam decreased for New York City and New York State, while students at TWR partner high schools experienced growth.
