Appositives help students add detail, vary their sentence structure, and make their writing more precise and sophisticated. Within the Hochman Method, there is a sequence of six scaffolding activities that we recommend rolling out gradually to support student success. This strategy is introduced in Grade 3 and is one of the three ways students in Grades 3–12 learn to write strong topic and concluding sentences.
