Sentence Combining is a great way to teach grammar and usage in context. Instead of memorizing rules, students learn how to apply grammar by experimenting with how ideas fit together. This strategy encourages more complex sentences and gives students flexibility and control as they explore different ways to express their thinking. We recommend this strategy for students in Grades 2–12.
